The boudin balls were really bad some of the worst ive had . But the shrimp poboy for sure made up for it one of the best ive had shrimp had an awesome batter with a little spice the remoulade sauce on it was badass ! Spicy as well plenty of shrimp on it only complaint was it was too much bread but still good

Our friends, who live in the area, were almost apologetic in their descriptions of Hot Tails: "They've got really great food, but. . ." But nothing. Really. Great. Food. The atmosphere and clientele only add to the authenticity of the experience! First impression: you know these people care about quality when they keep half a dozen local quality microbrews on tap. We tried and loved Southern Pecan and LA 13. The food was out of this world. Fried okra was crispy outside, tender within, served with a spicy dipping sauce; gumbo was light and soupy, as seafood gumbo ought to be, flecked with just the right proportion of rice. Boudin balls were packed with spices and meat, the best I've ever tasted. But we really came here for the poboys, and we were not disappointed. Fluffy white rolls, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, spicy remoulade sauce, and the main attraction: crispy, light seafood fried to perfection. Both the catfish and shrimp versions were superb. Even the accompanying French fries, thick and mealy, were hard to stop eating -- especially when sprinkled with the Cajun spice blend on the table. We left stuffed and happy, and can't wait to return!

Great bar food. Thought this was a sit down an order kind of place. It's an order than sit an wait kind of place. More a bar type place than a family restaurant, though they did have a kids menu. Our order was prepared quickly an pleasantly presented. The grilled shrimp salad was awesome. The Crawfish box was yummy an their fries are just like homemade cut yourself but the mufflata was a disappointment. It had plenty of crawfish an shrimp but not 1 olive or pepper. It had grilled onions some kind of liquid that made the bread soggy an lots of yummy melted cheese. The staff were amazingly nice. They even had enough foresight to ask if we liked food spicy which helped my child does NOT so she got the grilled shrimp salad an loved it. They were very attentive to ensure that we were taking care of. I do recommend this place if your wanting a get away from the kids an enjoy the bar scene.

The name "Hot Tails" is a play on the Cajun favorite crawfish tails. However the name doesn't disappoint. The meals here are loaded with spice. The food is hardcore Cajun food and really good. They take old favorites and put new but still down home spine on it. It is worth the drive from anywhere. It is definitely Louisiana to the core. Every time I am in the area I make it point to stop in. I have everything from the steak to the crawfish bread and I can't forget the boudin balls, seriously good food. I highly recommend this if you are in the new Rhodes area and looking for great food.

Love this place! Has a great mix of Cajun Louisiana Cuisine. If you want fried catfish covered in crawfish étouffée... this is your place. If you want a great hamburger you can sink your teeth into... this is your place. If you want a piled high shrimp remoulade salad... this is your place. The chef has many accolades on the wall in the dining room. Shows he knows is way around a kitchen. It's a great place for good food and relaxed dining. We will go again.

While on a trip passing thru New Roads, La., I stumbled across this place. I have to tell you, I've eaten a lot of cajun and Louisiana cuisine and this place is a rare find. The food here is just terrific. I was here for lunch with two friends and we stuffed ourselves. The highlight was the barbque shrimp and the bolletts stuffed with crawfish-really I don't want to be hyperbolic here, but it was like the second best thing I've ever eaten. The place is very informal, its very road house but clean. The staff is great, very friendly and they have a full bar for your adult beverage needs.

If you want a true, Louisiana style dining experience...this is the place to go. Crawfish are amazing, atmosphere is super casual and kid friendly. Great beer selection. The Boiled Shrimp are some of the best I've ever had. Make sure you dip the bread in the heavenly sauce...you will not be disappointed. Love their Rabbit over red beans, served in a cast iron skillet.

it was alright. i would give it 4 stars, except for a couple of things. it's a nice place, appearance-wise. kind of a cutesy southern louisiana theme, bordering on over the top, but it pulls it off. as such, i would like to 'sit down' and order. upon arrival we were directed to a counter to order. our meal came to a little over $50 + tip. there was a tip jar there, and a place for tipping on the credit card receipt. i tipped my usual 20% for good service, and just hoped for the best. the service was great. she earned it. but i hate tipping before i've been served. and i hate going out for a nice meal, and ordering from a counter. i dunno, there's just something so fast-foody about it. the food would get 4 stars, hands down. i had gumbo and the blackened shrimp remoulade salad. huge salad! and it was good. a little heavy on the dressing, which i will order on the side next time. he had the seafood box and fried alligator. both were crispy and delicious, maybe a wee bit too spicy, but i'll forgive that. all in all, i look forward to going back again soon. i'd love to try their po'boys.

The Mr. Ruiz is heaven on a croissant! The rest of the food is very well seasoned. This is my go to place for fast, tasty food-gift cards too! The staff is very friendly. The ambience is nice also.

The boiled crawfish are amazing! Expect crowds during Lent. They are definitely on the spicy side so this might not be the place for you if you don't like a lot of heat. The atmosphere is fun and beer selection is good. I've eaten here several times and I find most of the food is seasoned so similarly that it gets a bit old. I do recommend the cheese fries and the specials are usually very good.

One of my favorite menu items here are the "fried okra" the best I have ever eaten and more than enough to a serving . This and a side salad makes a meal.

Probably the best Louisiana restaurant outside New Orleans. The shrimp and catfish boxes are exceptional, with the best tartar sauce I've ever had and even their hush puppies - which I usually leave uneaten - worth having. Ultra friendly staff, great bar and cocktails. This place is worth a long drive.

I'm really torn about how to describe this place... so I will describe it in chronological order... The decor and ambiance of the place is great! Decorated with local flair, the creatively lit dining area is adorned with deer heads, and tiny, tiny televisions. The bar is pretty neat, with the coolers being housed within the back wall. A moderate selection of 7 or 8 draft beers is also available. Upon arriving, you place your order at a counter on the far side of the restaurant before seating yourself. I thought this was strange at first. Upon waiting for more than an hour for our food, I then realized that this practice was most likely enacted so that patrons don't walk out from the lack of service. As previously stated, we waited for more than an hour for our food. One member of our party got her food in about 20 minutes, meaning her shrimp were room temperature by the time the rest of our food came out. The restaurant was not busy, so I know that it was not a matter of the kitchen being backed up. Furthermore, one of their "award winning chefs" was standing around the dining room, talking to member of a party at a table right next to us for more than 30 minutes, as we waited for our food anxiously, not seeing our waitress for what seemed like forever. When our food finally came out, it was pretty good. I ordered the fried rabbit and red beans/rice after hearing about how great it was. I was disappointed. The meat was extremely tough. I was almost unable to cut into to it. I expected this to an extent, since rabbit IS notoriously tough. But most restaurants usually avoid this problem by serving fried strips of meat rather than the quartered pieces that Hot Tails serves. The chewiness of the meat would have been excusable if it were flavorful, which it was not. My friends were pleased with their burgers and po-boys, but I will may never know if they are any good, as I do not expect to return, if it is left up to me. Sadly, since there is quite a small selection of non-fast food in the area, I suspect I will be back. At least now I know what to order and what not to order. As well as how they operate. EDIT: I DID return to Hot Tails with some of my friends while I was visiting from out of town. I had a much different experience this time. The food still did take quite a while to come out, but the service was excellent. Our waitress came around to refill drinks a couple of times and was very pleasant. On the subject of the food, I decided to play it safe with a fried shrimp po-boy which was pretty damn good if I do say so. The portion was VERY generous, served open faced. It was packed with shrimp to the extent that it was almost hard to close. Definitely a great value for about 12 bucks. I won't change my rating just yet, but I do believe I will return the next time I'm in town.

Hot Diggity--Hot Tails is fun, ol' country good time. I remember the good ol' days when there were hardly any restaurants (fast food included) on Hospital Road in New Roads, LA. I am so glad that Hot Tails is here and here to stay. First, when you walk in you are encapsulated by all the decorative decor that is authentic and true to Louisiana, Southern Louisiana that is. After your eyes are done wondering, head over the counter to order your food from a massive chalkboard menu that hovers over your head. Then the cashier gives you a placard with a number and your cups to fill for drinks. At this point, it seems like a self-serve joint, but once seated your waitress finds you and you pretty much never have to get up again. My father and I ordered the crawfish bread andBBQ Nola shrimp for appetizers. For our entrees, we ordered a fried pork chop sandwich and a whole catfish po boy with remoulade sauce (both came with a side of fries). Our meal came out relatively fast, so let me start explaining. His shrimp were very good and it was enough for two, anyone that knows us--knows that we love our shrimp so we were amazed when he had enough to share with me. The crawfish bread isnt what you usually find in an establishment, its more of spinach artichoke dip on top of fresh baked bread, and topped with fried crawfish tails. It was too much to eat so I saved some for later. It was good and tasty. Then moments later, our entrees arrived, the pork chop sandwich was fried to perfection and stacked with lettuce, tomato and pickle. I love that the food came on top of wooden boards, instead of your usual plates and even the fries came in a tin pan. So country chic!

Great customer service mixed with great food, you can't ask for anything more. We have never had a bad meal from this place. My family and I drive 50 miles once, sometimes twice a month to enjoy this place. Our favorite is the bbq shrimp. This dish is flavorful and not greasy, like so many other places. The grilled shrimp with veggies entrée, salads and sandwiches are all music to my tastebuds. My husband and I normally share an appetizer and split an entrée because it is so much food. Please save room for the pecan cobbler with ice cream. The frog legs according to my husband are juicy and a tad spicy just like he likes them. The fries are hand cut, salad dressings, swamp sauce, cocktail sauces are all house made. The Loaded Fries and Loaded Mashed Potatoes are our normal swap out that we do with the seafood entrees. This place does it right, don't miss your opportunity to enjoy one of Louisiana's finest eateries! Way to go New Roads! Just a note, we are not fans of the catfish, it takes more like the Asian "Swasi Basi" Fish and not Pond Raised LA Catfish.

I am so thankful that I don't live in new roads or I would weigh five hundred pounds, high blood pressure, and diabetes because I love the food at Hot tails. When in Rome do as the Romans do, this is my vacation dining philosophy.

The first time I went I had the Pasta Salad, which ironically was more salad than pasta which was different. The balsamic dressing was interesting but I give that dish a 3/5. The second time I went I had the Swamp Thang Burger and it was wonderful. The patty was larger than the sesame seed bun, the shredded cheese on top, with curly fries on the side. Yum. It is on the pricier side but well worth the visit. I shall be returning frequently.

Came here mainly for the Rabbit leg..well the fried rabbit leg they got there is definitely something I wouldn't recommend. The batter was not seasoning-ed so it was tasteless, the meat itself was just really tough to chew. Expensive lunch meal of $16.00 ish for Fried Rabbit Leg meat and beans. We got water for drinks and they charge for ice cubes! $0.50 each person. This place is really out of nowhere in a little town, if you want to try Rabbit Leg and found this place in your search, I wouldn't recommend making a special trip there lol :) It was a nice adventure regardless!

My wife and I were out on a weekend getaway and had a craving for boiled crawfish. Being from Cajun Country, we're pretty leery of what other areas call Cajun food and have learned to just accept that every place has their own idea of what Cajun food should be. Some places are better than others, with some being a really horrible representation of what Cajun really is. Well, this place has got Cajun food down. The food is unbelievable and the service is second to none. From the person we made our reservation with, to the young lady who took our order, to the countless attentive servers who checked up on us and kept our drink glasses filled...all were great and motivated. I don't know who manages this crew, but he or she is doing a great job. Keep up the good work. My father owned a crawfish pond and I have crawfished for a living. I've even worked at crawfish processing plants as a boiler before, so to say I know crawfish, would be an understatement. When I ordered, I asked that they be spicy and boiled well. The young lady knew what I meant, and said, all our food is spicy and our boilers are the best around. Boy, was she dead on... I couldn't have done it any better myself...and I'm a damn good cook. They were as spicy and peeled perfectly. Great job. I'll be back.

Yummy! Came here with my fam on vacation. Hubby ordered the seafood muffaletta, I the gumbo. We also ordered fried pickles and something called crawfish boulettes. OMG everything was so good! The food here is a bit on the spicy side, so careful folks. Best gumbo I've ever had, hands down. Sorry Granny :)

Such a gut buster and soooooo delicious. Be hungry and be prepared for a nap afterwards. Had the crab cake croissant and French fries. This sandwich has a spillway sauce that just puts the light crab cakes over the top. The honey had a oysters Rockefeller cheeseburger with fires oysters, spinach and artichoke dip, and more of that delicious spillway sauce. Both dishes were incredibly rich, but a once in a while treat. Wait staff was completely kind as well.

I can't give this a Yay I'm a fan four star rating because the food is HOT! Too hot for me but it is good. My husband loves it and is a fan so not trashing the place. The service has always been excellent. The only thing I can handle are the hamburgers, everything else seems to have that hot seasoning on it. If you like spicy food, this is the place for you. If you are like me and like it but can't handle it, then you will be relegated to hamburgers.

Always good ! Love to eat here ! I ordered the grilled shrimp and grilled vegetables , it was very good ,and I would order it again . My husband ordered the boiled crawfish ,The crawfish was very tasty .,but really small for the price 25.00 for 3 pounds and only two very small potatoes and one corn , I don't recommend the crawfish unless your not a big eater .Overall a great place to eat. :)

amazing what can i say, every time I go i come back for more. I have really enjoyed all of the food i have had there. The fried shrimp is delicious, and always substitute the fries for okra, trust me you won't regret it. Also don't be afraid to try some of the more gourmet things on the menu those are always top notch. Appititzers must haves are the Crawfish balls and the new orleans bbq shrimp.
